One of the things I love most is connecting with you and finding out what your questions are! I鈥檓 always in a state of learning and this helps enormously with growing and adapting. Over the past year, I鈥檝e been lucky enough to get some feedback from customers and potential customers which I thought in turn would help you if I wrote them down. So here we have the Happy Carrot Skincare FAQs – a collection of your questions answered!
Why do you use plastic packaging?
Good question! Possibly my most common discussion on here is about packaging and the greenwashing involved! I鈥檝e talked about this A LOT on previous blogs here聽and聽here聽and on social media聽here!聽Until I can find a material that is available to the small indie skincare brand (like less than 10,000 units at a time) that is more sustainable than recycled plastic, I鈥檓 sticking with the plastic. Glass is not the most sustainable packaging available and I鈥檇 prefer to lose customers than do something I know is harmful to the environment for the sake of keeping the myth about glass alive! I am always more than happy to talk about this though, so please get in touch if you want to discuss it further!
Do you do samples or trial sizes?
Hmm this is a yes and no! I decided against doing samples as such because of the huge amount of packaging waste. Also, as I don鈥檛 have my own lab space, the cost of this would be really high. However, I did want to provide a smaller, travel or try before you buy size. You鈥檒l find these in our聽mini set. Each of the mini sizes are good for about a month鈥檚 use. This is the perfect amount of time to allow any product to have an effect on your skin anyway!
Why are the products so expensive?
I hear you! I always wanted to create a more economical product so that Happy Carrot would be accessible to everyone, whatever their budget. However, making good quality skincare, as I discovered, is an expensive business. Did you know that most creams and skincare products are water based and will contain around 70% water? Water is pretty cheap. Cold-pressed plant oils and butters on the other hand aren鈥檛. Our products are only made of 100% fabulous quality plant oils, butters, waxes or powders. There are no fillers or cheap ingredients to bring the price down so you get 100% bang for your buck as it were! Our products are all handmade too on a small scale with a lot of care, which makes the reduced costs of mass manufacturing just impossible. Can you make the pots bigger please?
This is one of the questions I get asked a lot! I am thinking about making a bigger聽Incredible Carrot聽because I know that some people use this as a body product for irritated skin like eczema flare ups. When this is financially possible for me, I鈥檒l certainly try!
The reason behind the current sizes is that the shelf life is limited. See the PAO (the open pot) symbol on the back? That shows you that the products are good for 6 months once you鈥檝e opened them. By our tried and tested use of the products, they take about 3 months to use a pot (or bottle) if you use it every day (except Brilliant Beetroot which is best twice a week). That way, they stay fresh and if you鈥檙e incorporating other products into your skincare routine, you won鈥檛 have to throw any of the product away!
Are you going to make a bigger range please?
I鈥檝e had loads of fabulous suggestions on this one! Behind the scenes I can tell you that I am definitely hard at work on some new products which I think you are going to love! I won鈥檛 be making soaps or body products (for now at least) but I am working on some more facial products which will launch over the next year or two. Unfortunately it takes a whole load of time and expensive paperwork to launch anything, so it鈥檚 not possible to do everything I鈥檇 like to, as quickly as I鈥檇 like to. Are these safe for use during pregnancy?
The short answer is yes! All products are perfectly safe to use during pregnancy. You will notice that some contain plant extracts by CO2 extraction. While these are potent extracts, we only use them in very small amounts for your safety that still provide maximum effect for your skin. These are not the same as essential oils, some of which women do need to be careful of during pregnancy. However, having said this, it is a good idea to do a patch test before using these (or any!) products on your face. During pregnancy, many women find their skin becomes more sensitive and so doing a patch test is more necessary at this time.
Where do you sell?
In theory, we sell worldwide except to The USA, Canada and China. I’ve recently discovered that my current insurance doesn’t cover selling in North America unfortunately. We are able, however, to sell within Europe with no added duty, it’s all done at checkout! With regards to selling in China, as a Leaping Bunny approved brand, I take our cruelty free status very seriously. Things are changing with regards to animal testing in China but for now, I won鈥檛 sell there. For the rest of the world, if you find your country is not available for posting on the website, I鈥檓 happy to set it up where possible!
What are your postage options?
All UK orders go out by courier service as standard. I鈥檒l always send you the link so you can follow the progress of your package once it鈥檚 gone out. Usually this is within 3 working days of putting in the order, often it鈥檚 the next day. For all orders over 拢40 this is free, and now is automatic! For EU orders, they go out via Royal Mail but they don鈥檛 have a tracking number. If you鈥檇 like an International Tracked service, please get in touch.
Do you accept returns?
Technically this is a no, because if the product has been opened then it obviously can鈥檛 be resold. So, if you鈥檝e changed your mind, then unfortunately no, I can鈥檛 accept a return. However, if it鈥檚 because there鈥檚 a problem with the product then of course, please get in touch and we鈥檒l sort something out. My personal assurance is that if you have any kind of skin reaction to my products (and can show me this) then I鈥檒l give you a 100% refund. My goal is happy customers with happy skin!
